The castle of Ebernburg as seen by William Turner in 1884.

The Ebernburg is a castle situated on top of a hill with steep hill-side vineyards.

The view on the Ebernburg is particularly attractive in autumn during the time of vintage (the time of our workshop).

The castle was first mentioned in 1212.

In the early 16th century it became well-known under the knight Franz von Sickingen as a focal point in the history of German Imperium and protestantism. At that time it received its name "refuge of rightness".

Today, the castle houses the "Protestant Family-Holidays and Education Centre (Evangelische Familienfreizeit- und Bildungsstätte)"

From the castle of Ebernburg you have a panoramic view on the wine village Ebernburg, the river Nahe and the rock formation of the Rotenfels.
The Nahe valley is one of Germanys official wine growing regions. In the village of Ebernburg you can taste the wine directly at one of the vintners.

The rock formation of the Rotenfels is 200 m high and is thus the highest sheer mountain face north of the Alps.

In 1970 the village Ebernburg was united with the traditional spa Bad Münster am Stein situated on the other side of the river Nahe to the municipality of Bad Münster am Stein-Ebernburg.
Bad Münster am Stein is known for its thermal, brine and radon springs. The appendix "am Stein" relates to the rock of Rheingrafenstein with a ruin on top (in the back).

The town of Bad Kreuznach is situated on the river Nahe 8 km northeast of the town of Bad Münster am Stein-Ebernburg and south of Bingen on the Rhine (the most famous part of the Rhine valley is between Bingen and Koblenz).
Bad Kreuznach is another traditional spa with thermal springs. The old bridge-houses on the river Nahe are worth seeing.

The castle of Ebernburg is situated at the town Bad Münster am Stein-Ebernburg in the valley of the river Nahe South of Bingen on the Rhine. A bigger town close by is the spa Bad Kreuznach 8 km Northeast.

  • By train: Bad Münster am Stein has a railway station on the railroad B 640 from Bingerbrück to Saarbrücken or B 650 from Mainz to Kaiserslautern. A bus to the village of Ebernburg is leaving from the railway station every 30 min (but it stops only at the bottom of the castle hill). Otherwise take a taxi which you can order or reserve in advance by phone.
  • By car: If you come from the North, West or South use the Autobahn A 61. Leave at the exit "Bingen" and use the highway B 50 to Bad Kreuznach. Coming from the East take the Autobahn A 60 from Mainz and leave at the exit "Bingen/Bad Kreuznach". From Bad Kreuznach drive South to Bad Münster am Stein-Ebernburg. The castle Ebernburg is situated South of Bad Münster am Stein. Cross the river Nahe to the village Ebernburg and follow the signs up to the castle. There is a parking area in front of the castle.
  • By air plane: The closest international airport is Frankfurt/Main (Frankfurt am Main International Airport (IATA: FRA, ICAO: EDDF)). From there you can take a train directly from the railway station for long distance trains ("Fernbahnhof") inside the airport building at the AIRail Terminal, right next to Terminal 1. There are low-fair flights (e.g. Ryanair) to Frankfurt-Hahn Airport, but note that this airport is nearly 100 km away from the town of Frankfurt. From Frankfurt-Hahn you have to take a bus to the town of Bad Kreuznach.
