The idea of the EURICE network is to connect rice research and application in European rice research, launched by the conference in Torino in September 2025.

Different ideas are currently discussed to formalise the network and to develop it into a tool that will foster cooperation, synergy, and, of course, funding opportunities. While this discussion is ongoing, it will take time to institutionalise EURICE in one or the other form. However, opportunities change with realities. Therefore, this website is supposed as tool to identify connections and find partners for bilateral interactions. Both activities are not mutually exclusive, but will be synergistic. For instance, there will be a call for Marie-Curie postdoc fellowships that allows to send postdocs between partners. These fellowships are individual to the person moving in Europe and can be applied for straightaway, if two labs identify common interests. The idea of this page is to provide a "speed-dating platform", where partners in the network can find potential matches and then go into deeper discussions and ideas about mutual cooperation. At the end of the day, such bilateral ties will strengthen the network as a whole, because they demonstrate to the funders that this network is based on real interactions.
